Counterpoint Research has released its list of the best-selling smartphones for Q1 2025. As expected, Apple and Samsung continue to dominate the global smartphone market, taking most of the top 10 spots. Xiaomi was the only other brand to feature on the list.

The Apple iPhone 16 topped the chart as the best-selling smartphone in Q1 2025, marking the return of the base iPhone model to the number one position after two years. It performed especially well in Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, with Japan recording the highest growth in base model sales.
Apple led the top 10 best-selling smartphones list with five models. The iPhone 16 Pro Max ranked second, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 15. Apple secured the top four positions, while Samsung’s affordable Galaxy A16 5G took the fifth spot.
The bottom half of the list featured more budget and mid-range options. Samsung’s Galaxy A06 came in sixth, followed by its flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra at seventh. Unlike last year, when the Galaxy S24 made the list, this time the S25 Ultra was the only premium Samsung device to appear. Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C, a budget smartphone, claimed the eighth spot. The Galaxy A55 and iPhone 16 Plus rounded out the list at ninth and tenth, respectively.
